Event Itinerary

Embark on a breathtaking drive through the Lake District, one of the UK’s most stunning regions, known for its pristine lakes, rugged mountain passes, and quaint villages. This carefully crafted driving route will take you from the charming Lakeland Motor Museum to the dramatic vistas of Honister Pass and beyond, providing an unforgettable experience of natural beauty and serenity. Whether you’re a nature lover, a photography enthusiast, or simply in search of a day of amazing driving, this journey through the Lake District promises enchanting landscapes and memorable moments at every turn.

Morning Route

  • Starting Point: Lakeland Motor Museum, Backbarrow Begin your day at the Lakeland Motor Museum cafe, where you can enjoy a coffee and cake to prepare yoursellf for the day.  This is a fantastic spot to delve into automotive history before setting off on your scenic drive.

  • Drive to towards Windermere After departing from the museum, make your way towards a the amazing Lake Windermere. This spot offers panoramic views of the lake, surrounded by the lush greenery of the Lake District.

  • Honister Pass, Keswick Continue your journey to Honister Pass, one of the Lake District’s most dramatic mountain roads. The pass cuts between high peaks and offers some of the area's most dramatic landscapes. It's a great spot for a short hike or simply to take in the view.

  • Scenic Drive towards Buttermere From Honister Pass, wind your way down to Buttermere. This route offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains, providing ample opportunities for photography as we build up our appetite for lunch.

Lunch 

  • Lunch near Buttermere Enjoy a relaxing lunch at the amaing Ravenstone Manor. This is a perfect time to savor local cuisine and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the Lake District.  We will need to complete a pre-order which will be sent out the weekend before our drive.

Afternoon Route

  • Whinlatter Pass After lunch, we'll do a quick circle back round and cover off Winlatter Pass.  Just so on the day we can say we've covered off all of the major Lake District Passes!
  • On towards Kirkstone Pass Then, we'll head back down towards Windemere before doing a u-turn back up to Kirkstone Pass, the highest pass in the Lake District that is accessible by car. The drive offers spectacular views and a sense of adventure as you navigate the winding roads.

  • Drive past Ullswater and towards Penrith Following Kirkstone Pass, your route will take you past Ullswater, one of the largest lakes in the district, known for its beauty and tranquility. Continue towards Penrith, enjoying the changing landscapes.

  • Ending at our Hotel for the Evening  If you're staying on with us for the Sunday drive, you can relax with a nice beer, glass of wine or a cracking firestone steak.  This charming hotel offers comfortable accommodations and stunning views of the surrounding fells, making it the perfect place to get ready for your Sunday adventure.

We have an optional hotel stay on the Saturday Night if you are continuing on to our North Pennines Drive on the Sunday.

Tips for the Journey

  • Fuel Up: Ensure your vehicle is fully fueled, as some parts of the route are remote.
  • Weather Check: The Lake District weather can change rapidly; it's wise to check forecasts and pack accordingly.
